Longtime Omaha optometrist Dr. Donald C. “Don” Scott dedicated his career to helping others.

When he began receiving dialysis at Methodist Hospital, he saw an opportunity to make a difference in a new way. His wish was simple: more comfort, more privacy and a place for families to be together.

Thanks to his extraordinary generosity, that vision is now a reality.

In late July, the Scott family joined Methodist leaders and caregivers to dedicate the newly renovated Methodist Hospital Dialysis Center, made possible by Don’s $1.2 million gift.

The center has nearly doubled in size, with six patient bays, comfortable chairs, improved lighting and room for family members to stay close during treatment.

Although Don passed away in May before the renovation was completed, his children—William Scott, Lindsey Stevens and Rachel Scott Gorby—helped carry his legacy forward.

“Their involvement made this project deeply personal for them and for all of us,” said Tracy Madden-McMahon, Methodist Hospital Foundation’s president and CEO.

“My dad would be so happy,” Lindsey said. “He was really excited about this project.”

Because of one patient’s incredible generosity, thousands more will now experience greater comfort, dignity and compassion for generations to come.
